How a real photo gives itself away.

Real photos have signs that AI-generated images usually lack. Camera metadata, the way physical sensors capture noise, the way JPEG compression interacts with in-camera processing. AI-generated images frequently carry their own markers too, either deliberately embedded by the generator or visible in the pixel-level structure of the image.

What about heavily edited or filtered photos?

Photos that have been through Instagram filters, Lightroom, or AI cleanup tools sit in a gray zone. We surface that uncertainty in the result rather than giving you a false-confidence number. When the signals are mixed, you will see it.

Frequently asked.

Will it work on a screenshot from my phone?
Yes. Screenshots are the most common input. The detector handles PNG, JPEG, and WebP up to 6 MB. Even compressed social-media saves are usually detectable.
Can it tell a photo from an AI image even if the metadata was stripped?
Yes. When provenance metadata is missing, the detector falls back to visual analysis. Accuracy is high on modern diffusion outputs and we surface uncertainty rather than overclaiming when signals are mixed.
What about heavily filtered or edited photos?
Photos that have been through Instagram filters, beauty apps, or AI-cleanup tools sit in a gray zone. We mark these as uncertain when the signals do not give a clear answer.
Does it work on selfies?
Yes. Selfies are well covered. AI-generated face images are one of the strongest categories for the detector.
